Probably one of the most common rodents seen around the Dallas/Ft. Worth area is the squirrel. Squirrels typically take up residence in parks and trees. However, when the opportunity arises to move into a predator-free human home, they will jump at the chance.
While squirrels can easily run up the side of your house to get to the roof, they often like homes with low hanging trees. This gives them easy access to food and protection in the same area. Getting into your house is easy as they only need a tiny opening to create a hole big enough. Typically, this is done around roof vents, edges, soffits, plumbing mats, chimneys, and gables; and the squirrels use their front two teeth to gnaw materials such as wood, plastic, and even aluminum.
With an infestation on your hands, those rodents can cause quite a ruckus. Loud scratching and pawing coming from in the attic coupled with tiny squeaks are the sounds you can expect to hear. They typically gather nesting materials out of insulation and leave feces and urine everywhere in the attic. In addition to the damage to your home, they enjoy eating the fruits and veggies in your garden and seeds in any birdfeeders set up.
