Opossums
Many homeowners think of mice and squirrels when they believe that they may have an animal living behind their walls or in the attic. However, opossums also like to get inside from the cold winter nights and make nests in your home. Since these nocturnal animals can be the size of a house cat, it’s important to be alert to the signs of such an invasion.
Signs That You Have Opossums In Your Home
- Hissing and shrieking. Opossums make vocal noises such as hissing and shrieking when they are threatened.
- Scratching behind the walls. Heavy scratching behind your walls or in your attic is another clear sign of an animal infestation. The more substantial the scratching, the more likely it is to be a larger animal living in your home.
- Unpleasant odors. Opossums leave droppings more frequently than other animals and, given their size, their droppings are large.
- Holes. Most commonly near your eaves and roofline. Opossums are good climbers and most often enter homes via the eaves. Be alert for signs of animal activity there.
